Chemical engineering traditionally contains all the processes necessary to make 'chemicals' for human life based on 'chemistry'. Since the industrial revolution, chemical engineering has been established as one of the most important engineering fields for human beings due to the development of refining industry and the petrochemical industry. Chemical engineering currently expands its range into electronics, renewable energy, nanomaterials, and bio-industry.
The department of chemical engineering deals with the basic theories and technologies of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, reaction engineering, transport phenomenon, and process technologies traditionally required in chemical engineering. In particular, new and renewable energy technologies, represented by solar cells and secondary batteries as cutting-edge chemical engineering fields, brings fresh vitality to future industry.
The department also includes theories and practical skills on development of green chemical products, biotechnology for medicine development, and nanotechnology applied to high tech materials and catalysts. It strives to foster professional engineers who can embrace both traditional and new chemical engineering fields.
